Artists and photographer Catherine Ulitsky produced an instillation piece where she chose to wrap string around different locations to produce a connection between two areas. The piece that inspired me was using a stair case to show the use of space and how areas can be connected to each other using different materials. I produced something similar to using black woollen string I chose to wrap it around the stair case and hand rail to produce a web like effect.
The sheet of glass between the stairs separates the strings on each side showing how something simple can act as a barrier and separate the layers of string and produce something in between, again matching the exam theme again.
I love the reflection in these two photographs. The reflection adds another aspect to the image. The way that something that is already within the image can be useful to create another level. It also looks like it might not be a reflection and could possibly be something floating in amongst the string web.
I think this is really effective and using something so simple like string and resource you come across every day can help change the way you look at the things around you and inspires you to use both natural and man made spaces for further experiments. I plan to use natural spaces like gapes between trees to wrap string in between the branches to show further connections.
Good - please comment on how the glass is acting as a barrier (in-between) 2 different sides. The web like effect blocks this even further too. The reflection is also interesting and worthwhile mentioning. It is important for you to get in the darkroom asap and by Tuesday to of experimented with spider webs outside so you can move forward into creating your installation before Easter.
